Twinkie

Weren't Twinkies the quintessential comfort food? Yes they were diabetes-inducing individually-wrapped hyper-sweet treats. But don't they remind you of the comforts of being a carefree adolescent who wasn't concerned about being overweight or how much insulin it would take to counteract the post-consumption sugar onslaught. These junk food treats were once thought to be the only processed food that could survive nuclear fallout. (Spam strongly refutes the use of the word "only")
So, don’t be surprised when one of our American luxuries is taken away, it causes some nationwide concern (social media annoyance). Yes as a healthcare professional I rejoice a little each time a junk food commodity dies out, but the kid in me is saddened by the loss of a horribly understated “reliable” food choice that brings back memories of being a carefree kid.

NOTE: when you find yourself in nuclear fallout on the edge of radiation poisoning and looking for food and shelter… when you come across a convenient store, don’t waste time looking for the survival food that was Twinkie. It won’t be there. A rare psychological comfort, food, will be missed not because it was the main source of calories in our daily lives, but because it would always be there.
